Pupil Premium and Covid Recovery

The ‘Pupil Premium’ funding was introduced by the the Government in April 2011 with the objective of narrowing the achievement gap between students from low income families and their peers. Pupil Premium is paid to the school based on the number of children eligible for free school meals now or in the previous 6 years, children in care and children with parents currently serving in the armed services.

Schools are free to spend the Pupil Premium as they see fit, however they are accountable for how they use the additional funding to support pupils from specific target groups.

From September 2022, schools were also given a Covid recovery premium based on the number of PP students in the school. How this money is being spent in 2022-23 is incorporated into the Pupil Premium Review and Strategy.
